Dodge Challenger Loses Wheel And Hub While Showboating At 70 MPH In A Parking Lot

Driving 70 mph through a parking garage is an offense. As an illustration of the consequences when things go wrong, see this video.

Posted to Twitter, the video shows a Dodge Challenger accelerating past a group of people assembled in a parking lot and seemingly hitting a drainage dip.

It’s hard to follow quite what happens next, but it seems like there may have been more than one impact. The wheel ends up flying off of the vehicle. The wheel and entire hub assembly are also thrown away. The wheel, brake, hub and entire assembly can all be recovered by using a bush.

While this no doubt feels pretty bad for the driver, especially with the amount that the people around him are laughing, it’s probably still more sympathy than he deserves. It is simply stupid to drive like that in such a location. And if anything happens (in this instance, losing your wheel at an extremely high speed), you are more of a passenger then a driver. Apart from the potential for hitting other people, the steering wheel could easily injure a pedestrian.

Although it’s unclear what model of Challenger was featured in the video, from the sounds of it, the car was powered by a V8. Hellcat Redeye trim produced 797 horsepower (808 PS/594kW) while the lower trims like the 392 Hemi put out 485 HP (492 PS/362kW), which can be more than enough power to cause serious problems.

It just goes to show that Mustangs aren’t the only cars that get in trouble while hot dogging; one can be a boneheads behind the wheel of any vehicle.
