Going Refurbished During the Current Crisis

As the current pandemic worsens, and finances become even more precarious for more and more people around the globe, it’s time to think more seriously about living more frugally and save money. Because even when the current health emergency is over, the economic repercussions are going to last for many months longer, or even years longer.

Buying refurbished, instead of brand new, is a prudent way to save on electronics and appliances. The trend is already firmly established with clothing — before they were shut down for the duration, thrift stores were doing a roaring trade in gently used shirts, jeans, blouses, and even shoes. The same can hold true for a laptop computer. When the time comes to replace your current model, don’t immediately start pricing the new models, but instead start searching online for a less expensive, but just as reliable, refurbished model. The savings can be significant.

Probably the main concern consumers have when looking to buy a MacBook Pro or ChromeBook online is quality control. There are basically two ways to solve that problem. First of all, make sure to deal with an online group that is very clear and transparent about quality ratings. A reputable seller of refurbished laptops will have a simple grading system so you know what quality grade you are looking at — so you can decide if what they have in your price range is the kind of quality guarantee you’re comfortable with.

Second, of course, is the money back guarantee being offered on their merchandise. Buying anything online ‘as is,’ with no warranty implied or otherwise, is an easy way to lose money on shoddy products.

This being said, if you’re looking for a MacBook Air, always insist on paying by credit card. That’s because if something does go wrong with the merchandise the consumer is able to initiate a refund through their credit card company if the dealer proves reluctant to provide one.
