The Most Imported Japanese Cars in New Zealand

Japanese cars have been imported more and more to New Zealand over the years. A great proportion of all cars imported to New Zealand come from Japan, with the percentage above 90%. This is a staggering number of cars, somewhere above the quarter of a million a year.

Japan is known as a reliable manufacturer of cars. Seven of the most popular cars in New Zealand in 2016 were manufactured in Japan, them being the Suzuki Swift, Nissan Navara, Mazda CX-5, Mitsubishi Triton, Toyota Corolla, Toyota RAV4 and Toyota Hilux.

So here are the most imported cars to New Zealand from Japan:

The Toyota Hilux

This is a superb off-road vehicle that is great for anyone who loves four-wheel-drive, or has a need for that storage in the back. Those that enjoy their outdoor leisure pursuits also often opt for the Hilux, and it is in the top three most popular cars in New Zealand on a consistent basis year on year.

There are different models of the Hilux with varying numbers of seats, which means that the vehicle is ideal for different purposes.

The Toyota RAV4

Although this Toyota isn’t the most prestigious or luxurious of the SUVs, it is a solid car and has been a great investment for many over the years. It is safe, has a good amount of storage for a relatively small SUV, and comes at an excellent price point.

The Corolla

This is the most popular car in the world, so it’s not a surprise that there are plenty coming into New Zealand. This is a fuel-efficient and reliable car that is practical in every way. The evolution of the Corolla has been gradual and the latest models are longer, wider and lower than their predecessors.

The Nissan Navara

The first non-Toyota car in our range is the Nissan Navara. It is a strong, comfortable ride with excellent fuel efficiency. With its neat looks and styling, it is comparable to the luxurious SUV models in higher price bands.

The Mitsubishi Triton

This car is excellent value for money, with good off-road capabilities, nice gadgets and accessories, and remarkable fuel efficiency. This car will cost you less than most other comparable cars in the class and is an excellent Japanese import.

So, there you have it, five of the most popular imports from Japan that come into New Zealand year after year.
