Resisting Corrosion

Mercury can be used to make motor parts in boats. Mercury is suitable for basking metals from corrosion, which is a big problem for marine engines. That way, boats can withstand years in their wet environment. Following this mantra, manufacturers are improvising more technical adjustments. For example, manufacturers are working on building boats with materials that are less likely to corrode. Additionally, manufacturers paint boats with low copper aluminum that possesses anti-corrosion properties.

On the other hand, cars are made differently from boats. Manufacturers do not have to incorporate anti-corrosion materials. Vehicles are meant for dry land. Hence, there is no need for anti-corrosive agents.

Engine Use

Generally, engines used in boats have a shorter life span than industrial engines used for cars. Their shorter life span is mainly caused by the low revolutions per minute (RPM) and high speeds that boats operate. Additionally, car engines are likely to last longer than boats. Boat engines corrode highly due to saltwater exposure.

The Starter

The starter is a minor feature powered by the battery to get your car engine running. In boats, the marine engine starter motor is coated with epoxy to prevent rust. Moreover, you cannot use boat starters in vehicles. They are well shielded to avoid sparks. Car starters are not coated with epoxy since they are not prone to corrosion compared to boat starters.

Alternator

Automobiles have a type of electrical generator called an alternator. When your engine is running low, the alternator will recharge your battery and get your motor running. The difference between car and boat alternators is their designs. Alternators in cars are made from lighter materials that are suitable for small batteries. Car alternators cannot power high loads.

Marine alternators are created to produce large amounts of power. Besides, boat alternators are mounted on compartments that shield them from moisture. Car alternators do not require shielding from water because cars operate on land.

Fuel Pumps

A fuel pump is a feature that works to ensure your boat engine runs successfully. All machines need gas to run, and fuel pumps supply gas from the gas tank to cylinders. For this process to be successful, high temperatures are required. The fuel pump in boats is shielded to avoid combustion and corrosion. Most marine fuel pumps have a dual-diaphragm shape, which keeps them from breaking. If the fuel pump raptures, fuel spills on the bilge.

Car fuel pumps have a single diaphragm pump that conveys gas from the gas tank to fuel injection plugs. Cars are typically meant for dry land. They are not incorporated with anti-corrosion or anti-combustion pieces of equipment.

Carburetor

A carburetor uses air and fuel to spark your boat’s engine. Carburetors comprise an accelerator pump, a jet, a valve, and so on. Boats that use carburetors feature an overflow dam to prevent oil spillage. Oil spill in water bodies leads to death of sea plants and animals. Most cars do not have carburetors due to technological advancements, which are more efficient.

Cars and boats share some similar aspects since they are used in transport. However, a fine line separates how manufacturers create boats and vehicles.
