2022 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 to have 329 miles of range, too heavy for official EPA rating

General Motors confirmed a range of 329 miles for its 2022 GMC Hummer EV pickup truck in their Edition 1 launch spec. However, you won’t see that number on the EPA site.

The Hummer EV’s preliminary gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), of 10.400 pounds, and curb weight over 9,000, places it in the heavy-duty truck class. GMC does not have to report the Hummer’s efficiency or range numbers, just like diesel pickups and gasoline heavy-duty trucks.

EPA tests were not designed for trucks with heavy duty loads. However, tests that reached the 329-mile limit were based upon the agency’s method, GMC stated. Green Car ReportsTuesday, with various media outlets.

GMC further noted that while Edition 1 has been classified as a truck for heavy duty, all other Hummer EV versions will be considered light duty trucks and receive appropriate EPA ratings.

GMC may have to make concessions in order to meet their tight timeline by classifying Edition 1 as a heavy duty vehicle and making later models as standard passenger cars. Although Hummer EV approval was granted in 2019, GMC has indicated that deliveries may be made before the year ends.

Future versions of the Edition 1 will get the 200-kwh pack battery and the extra “350+” miles GMC mentioned. The Hummer EV Edition 1 currently exceeds the Rivian R1T’s 314 mile range rating, but a bigger-battery pickup version is in the works.

Edition 1 includes the most powerful EV3X motor and a starting price of $112 5,95. GMC stated that it would release a regular EV3X model about a year later than the Edition 1. It will cost $99,995. The EV2X, EV2X models and EV2X will be available in 2023 or 2024. The EV2X and EV2X models will be available at $89,995, while the EV2X model will cost $79,995.

The 2023 model year will see the arrival of a Hummer EV SUV. It’s expected to have less range than the pickup—GMC quotes “300+” miles—and will also launch in six-figure Edition 1 guise. GMC will offer the Standard Edition 1 model starting at $105,595. But, GMC is also planning to offer the Extreme Off-Road Pack that reduces range by 280 miles but elevates base price to $110.595.
