The 1990s 500E Is The Porsche Of Mercedes-Benzs

To the casual observer, the Mercedes-Benz 500E could be mistaken as yet another old, boring sedan from the German automaker’s range. However, that couldn’t be further from the truth.

Porsche developed the 500E as the W124’s performance version. It was even built at Porsche’s plant in Zuffenhausen and was equipped with a plethora of performance parts. It can be hard to find a clean example of a used car on the market, but it is not impossible.

This particular 500E model is from 1992 and was originally registered in California. It then moved to Virginia. It is now located in Franklin, Tennessee, has 176,000 miles (~283,000 km) on the clock and is being offered with manufacturer’s literature, a window sticker, service records, a tool kit, maintenance log, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Tennessee title.

The 500E’s engine is a 5.0-liter, naturally aspirated V8 derived form the R129-generation SL. The engine generates 322 horsepower (480 Nm) at 5,700 Rpm. A four-speed automatic transmission drives the rear wheels. The Bring a Trailer listing notes that the car’s neutral safety switch, transmission kickdown solenoid, transmission overload protection switch, upshift delay switch, and an oxygen sensor were recently replaced.
