Ridesharing in the Age of COVID-19

The age of Coronavirus has changed the world immensely from businesses shutting down to cities having curfews. The virus is extremely dangerous for people that are elderly or have other underlying health conditions. The reliance on the income that many people make off of rideshare apps like that of Lyft and Uber has diminished for many drivers. Delivery of food has become very prevalent with many people not using a rideshare app as there are not many places open. Riders also have been very apprehensive about using the service due to the risks associated; some drivers are doing anything possible, like getting coronavirus magnets created for themselves. The following are things that you should know about ridesharing in the age of COVID-19.

You Need to Wear a Mask

Wearing a mask is very important when you are out in public although there are some individuals that do not think it is necessary. The driver of the car is going to be wearing a mask due to it being required by major ridesharing companies. The driver is going to come into contact with multiple people that may or may not have been following social distancing guidelines. Gloves are also recommended as you never know what surface the virus is living on. Do not put the driver at risk if you are sick in any capacity as they are providing a service that shouldn’t put them in danger. There will be plenty of drivers that give you disinfectant wipes so you can wipe down your seat before entering the car.

Sit in the Back if Possible

You might be getting a larger Uber that might have a few rows. You will still be sharing the air in the car but staying a distance away is an extra step you can take. Rolling the windows down might be the best option though especially if you are a few rows behind the driver. Drivers will also have preferred places for you to sit and might even have some kind of protection in the car. Plexiglass has been used in a plethora of situations during this pandemic.

Sanitize Your Hands After Riding

You should be washing your hands more frequently than ever before during this current pandemic. Sanitizing your hands is another option if you took an Uber to the beach or somewhere that there is not an immediate sink available. Laundry in the age of the pandemic should also be done differently as you should not shake out your clothes. Changing clothes after using a rideshare service is also recommended as you do not know how many passengers the driver had with them on a given day.

The Coronavirus has caused the world to be far more aware of cleanliness than ever before in history. Intelligent behavior can allow the entire world to flatten the curve and help overcome the pandemic. Make sure if you are a driver or rider that you are taking all of the necessary steps to ensure the health of everyone in the vehicle. You need to keep your personal health as a priority so do not use a rideshare service if you feel like you are at risk.
